Neon Serpent is an arena game about getting long and staying alive. Your serpent glides after the mouse or your finger across a dark hex-grid arena scattered with glowing orbs. Every orb you swallow adds to your length, and the longer you are the wider your body gets and the more of the arena you can wrap up. The live leaderboard in the corner shows who is the longest serpent right now.

There is one rule that decides everything: if your head touches another serpent's body, you burst into a shower of orbs. That works both ways. Slip in front of a rival, curl around them or cut across their path and they crash into you, leaving their whole length behind for you to eat. Boosting makes you twice as fast for a moment, which is how you get ahead of someone to cut them off, but it burns your length and leaves a trail of orbs behind you that others will gladly swallow.

Play alone in an arena full of computer serpents that wander, hunt for food and try to trap you, or press Play online to join a match with up to seven other people, with computer serpents filling the empty places. Pick one of ten neon skins before you start. Your best length goes on the TapNPlay leaderboard, so every run is a chance to climb a little higher.

How to play

  1. Move the mouse (or drag on a touch screen) and your serpent turns to follow it.
  2. Swallow the glowing orbs to grow longer. The big ones left behind by fallen serpents are worth the most.
  3. Hold the left mouse button, Space or the BOOST button to speed up. Boosting costs length and drops orbs behind you.
  4. Never let your head touch another serpent's body or the edge of the arena. Get in front of rivals so they crash into you instead.

FAQ

How is my score counted?

Your score is your length. The longest you got before you crashed is saved as your best and sent to the leaderboard.

Can I run into my own body?

Yes, you can pass over yourself safely. Only other serpents' bodies and the edge of the arena are dangerous, so circling around a rival is a good way to trap them.

How does online play work?

Play online puts you in a room with up to seven other players. The match starts when the room is full, or the host can start it early, and computer serpents fill any empty places. If you crash you can jump straight back in.
