Hang Ten Words is a cheerful word guessing game in the spirit of classic hangman, without the gallows. Instead, a little surfer rides a wave while you guess the hidden word one letter at a time. Every right letter lights up its tiles. Every wrong letter makes the wave bigger, and after seven mistakes the wave crashes and your surfer wipes out with a big cartoon splash, then pops back up smiling. Solve the word first and the surfer pulls off a trick instead.

Every word comes from one of twelve categories, from animals, food and countries to sports, jobs, music, science, travel, movies and school, and the category is shown as a clue. In Classic mode you have three surfboards: chain solved words into a streak to raise your score multiplier, and lose a board on every wipeout. Choose a single category to practise, or play the Daily Word, the same word for everyone in your language each day, with its own leaderboard. Stuck? A hint reveals a letter for a few points.

Words and keyboards are made for each of the twelve languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Turkish, Polish, Indonesian, Japanese and Korean, with the right special letters on the keyboard. Accents are forgiving where it feels natural, so in French an E counts for É and È. Japanese uses a full kana chart and Korean builds syllables from their letters. Go online for Word Duel: quick match a player in your language or share a private room code with a friend, get the same word at the same time and race to solve it in a best of five. Your best streak, scores and settings are saved automatically.

How to play

  1. Look at the category and the row of empty tiles: each tile is one letter of the hidden word.
  2. Tap a letter on the keyboard, or type it. Right letters fill in every matching tile; wrong letters make the wave grow.
  3. Solve the word before seven mistakes, or the wave crashes and the surfer wipes out.
  4. Use a hint to reveal one letter when you are stuck. It costs points, so save it for the tricky words.
  5. In Classic mode keep your streak going for a bigger multiplier; you have three surfboards before the game ends.

FAQ

Is Hang Ten Words a hangman game?

Yes, it plays like classic hangman: guess the hidden word letter by letter with a limited number of mistakes. Instead of a hanging figure, a cartoon surfer rides a growing wave, and seven wrong letters mean a friendly wipeout, so it is fine for kids and families.

Can I play word guessing in my own language?

Yes. There are hand-made word lists for 12 languages, each with twelve categories and its own keyboard, including Turkish, German, Polish and Spanish letters, Russian Cyrillic, a Japanese kana chart and Korean letters. The words follow the game language, and you can pick another word language in the settings.

How does the online Word Duel work?

Choose Word Duel, then quick match a player who plays in the same word language, or create a private room and share its four-letter code. You both get the same word at the same moment and race to solve it. The first to win three rounds takes the match.
